Slovenian Dinner featuring Gönc Winery
TUESDAY | JUNE 17TH | 5:30 PM
Join us as Jamie Trott of JP Bourgeois returns to host another unforgettable wine dinner—this time highlighting the expressive, organic, and natural wines of Slovenia’s Gönc Winery. The Blue Points e executive chef, Dave "Pops" Melson will pair these incredible wines with Slovenian-inspired dishes.
Gönc is a family-run estate with deep roots, dating back to 1936 when Peter Gönc’s great-grandfather built their first wine cellar and planted vineyards in the small Slovenian town of Dobrovnik. After WWII, the family moved to Ptuj, where Peter’s grandfather rose from cellar cleaner to CEO of Ptujska Klet (now Pullus), the oldest winery in Slovenia.
Continuing the family legacy, Peter’s father planted 24 acres of vineyards while working at the same winery. When Peter came of age, they expanded to 28 acres and built a new cellar—reigniting the Gönc label. Now a fourth-generation winemaker, Peter champions organic farming and low-intervention winemaking. His wines are crafted with little to no added sulfites, yet they remain impressively stable and long-lasting, even once opened—perfect for restaurants and wine bars serving by the glass.
Peter also brings his passion for rock music into his winemaking, pairing bold, soulful wines with artfully designed labels that stand out as much as the juice inside.
Fun Fact: “Gönc” refers to a traditional Hungarian barrel—fitting for a family whose roots trace back across the border.
